The key to a smooth morning starts…the night before! Here is a list of our top ten tips for smooth morning routines:
- Pack Backpacks – Pack backpacks the night before and set them by the door.
- Pack Lunches – Pack as much of the lunches as possible the night before.
- Prepare Healthy Snacks – Use Sundays to prepare healthy snacks. Wash and divide fruits and vegetables into individual portions. You can also package snacks such as popcorn or pretzels into snack size servings. This makes packing lunches a breeze.
- Choose Outfits – Plan and lay out outfits the night before.
- Stick to a Schedule – Consistent bedtimes and wake times benefits all of us!
- Review the Calendar – Check the calendar each night to prepare for the next day. Do the kids need to pack a uniform for the big game? Band instrument? Gym shoes?
- Get Plenty of Sleep – Not only will this help with smooth mornings, but your children will have more energy and be able to better concentrate and focus throughout the day.
- Eliminate Technology – Kids get sucked in and lose track of time. Put away the video games, tablets, and phones, and turn off the TV.
- Allow an Extra 10 Minutes – Set alarm clocks ten minutes earlier each morning. These extra few minutes help everyone feel less rushed.
- Use Checklists – Create checklists for your kids to use to help them get ready the night before. This gives them a sense of independence, and it also cuts down on parents having to “nag”.
